While the main shopping village – complete with its supermarket, specialty shops, and adjacent Balbirooroo Community Wetlands – is situated slightly inland, the beach area provides a quiet, nature-focused seaside retreat.

The foreshore features sandy stretches, calm waters ideal for swimming and kayaking, shallow rock pools, and coastal foreshore camping areas shaded by native banksias and tea-trees. Beyond the coast, rolling rural landscapes host a renowned selection of local wineries. Just to the east in neighbouring Somers lie the Coolart Wetlands and the historic 1895 Coolart Homestead, offering scenic walking trails, picnic and BBQ facilities, and a lagoon famous for hosting thousands of nesting Australian white ibis each year.
